Dandermonde – East Flanders Belgium

The brief was to redesign the Prison Library. Dendermonde Prison is the home to 200 Young Offenders from many countries.

The aim was to make the library more attractive, to encourage greater use of the library and to improve the flow through the library.

Consideration had to be given to security whilst making the library feel open and welcoming.

The design used calm but vibrant colours with inspirational quotations around the walls. The Young Offenders Art Work was to be displayed to encourage pride.
